Mission

To improve livelihoods of the people of Mombasa through promotion of competitive blue economy resource exploitation, innovative research, sustainable crops, livestock and cooperatives development.

An innovative, commercially-oriented and modern blue economy and agricultural sector.

Objectives Of The Department

  1. Policy formulation and direction of blue economy, cooperatives, agriculture, fisheries, veterinary services, and livestock production.
  2. Initiate development and coordination of specific policies, strategies, standards, procedures, and guidelines on implementation and review of cooperatives, agriculture, livestock production, fisheries, veterinary services, and blue economy.
  3. Coordinate establishment and management of agricultural, livestock production, veterinary services, cooperative ventures, and blue economy training centers and agricultural mechanization stations.
  4. Coordination and development of blue economy, livestock, veterinary services, and fish marketing and value addition systems.
  5. Coordination of collection and analysis of production statistics on agriculture, livestock production, veterinary services, fisheries, cooperatives, and blue economy to enhance planning and decision-making.
  6. Collaboration and strategic partnership with the national government, other county governments, and development partners in mainstreaming blue economy, cooperatives, agriculture, fisheries, veterinary services, and livestock production.
  7. Coordinate the development and implementation of projects and programs in blue economy, cooperatives, agriculture, fisheries, veterinary services, and livestock production.
  8. Coordinate and oversee the implementation of extension services and use of technology for crop production, fisheries, veterinary services, livestock production, and cooperative development.
  9. Enhance institutional development and infrastructure.

The Department's Functions & Roles

Formulates, implements and monitors Blue Economy and agricultural legislation, regulation and policies in the county.

Supports blue economy and agricultural research and promotes technology delivery at the county level

Develops, implements and coordinates programs in the blue economy and agriculture sector

Regulates and ensures quality control of inputs, produce and products in the blue economy and agricultural sector at the county level

Manages and controls trans-boundary pests, diseases and invasive species at county level

Provides blue economy and agricultural extension services

Collects, maintains and manages information on the blue economy and agricultural sector.

Promotes sustainable blue economy and agricultural resource management and utilization at the county level.

Ongoing Projects

01.

Successfully converted all BMUs into cooperatives

02.

Purchased over 30 deep sea fishing boats for fishermen in Mombasa county.

03.

More than 10 deep freezers procured for different BMU

04.

Trained over 60 locals for the STCW and Coxswain courses

05.

Procurement of value addition equipment for over 15 CIGs

06.

Construction of modern fish markets in Timbwani and Likoni fish markets in Likoni sub county.

07.

Construction of a modern fish landing site in Kidongo worth 163M

08.

Allocated 100M revolving fund for the BMUs that transitioned to cooperatives

Construction of new offices in Liwatoni

10.

 Successful conduct of annual ASK shows in Mombasa

11.

60 agricultural groups have received close to 99M to support their ventures in poultry farming, bee keeping and dairy farming.
